Wound care

Wound care involves medical interventions to heal a wound after injury. Specialized treatment is provided for wounds that are nonhealing or refuse to heal on their own. A vital aspect of treatment includes learning how to properly dress and care for a wound.

This oxygen is then carried throughout the body to promote faster healing.

Conditions that are treated using HBOT include:

  • Burns
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Gas gangrene
  • Crush injuries/compartment syndrome
  • Necrotizing fasciitis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Radiation injuries
  • Skin grafts
  • Thermal burns

Wound care and diabetes management

Diabetes is a chronic condition that can lead to serious complications if not treated properly. One of these complications is the development of wounds or diabetic foot ulcers, that can sometimes result in the need for intensive treatment, including amputation. When your care is in our hands, we do everything we can to prevent this and provide treatments that preserve as much of the affected limb as possible. However, we do provide advanced amputee care when needed.

We also provide diabetes education programs. Using individualized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs and lifestyle, we work closely with you first to properly diagnose your condition and then to carefully manage the disease through nutrition, exercise, support and education.

Limb preservation

Chronic wounds, often ones that are a symptom of diabetes, can lead to the need for amputation as a result of poor circulation, infection or neuropathy. Our integrated approach to limb preservation helps reduce the number of amputations needed as a result of diabetic complications.

Burn care

As part of our wound care programs, burn care for all ages is an integral part of the continuum of care at our hospitals. Additionally, our HCA HealthONE Swedish Burn and Reconstructive Center offers access to burn care specialists and innovative technology to treat many types of severe burns.
