Colleague Spotlight: Kelsi Dolezal

The DAISY Foundation is an international recognition program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. We are proud to recognize Kelsi Dolezal, RN, Medical Oncology, with this special honor.

In nominating Kelsi, one of her patient’s children wrote, “Throughout his three-week stay at the hospital, Kelsi Dolezal was assigned to my dad's room and she would go above and beyond every day we were in her care. Whenever she entered the room she had a smile on her face and she always had a joke to share. She made my dad smile even when he was feeling so weak, and she made us all feel so well cared for and comforted in such a time of distress and worry. It was so fun getting to know her over the few weeks. She not only cared for my dad, but my mom, sister and I as well. She shared so much empathy and compassion and helped my mom especially feel so much more at peace with the fact that my dad was going to be ok, and he was in such good hands. This was a new experience for my entire family, and with my dad being 83, it was scary to see him in the condition he was in.

Kelsi always made sure my dad was comfortable and we were comfortable as well. Offering extra linens if need be, snacks, drinks, etc. She was very thorough in the work she did, and she always made sure to follow up when she promised she would.

Thank you so much Kelsi, for all the fun stories you shared, the laughter, and the comfort and care you provided all of us! You have such a gift, and we appreciate ALL you did for us and all you do for all the other patients you care for! We wish you all the best, and are forever grateful for you!”
