Colleague Spotlight: Denise Gray

The DAISY Foundation is an international recognition program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. We are proud to recognize, Denise Gray, RN, Stepdown, with this special honor.

In nominating Denise, the wife of one of her recent patients wrote, “Denise was wonderful. She treated my husband with much care and kindness. She attended to his every need and even needs he did not know he needed. She also treated me with kindness and consideration. I spent the night and she made sure I had pillows and blankets. She went above and beyond to anything I would have expected. I never knew that people like her ever existed in a hospital setting. She makes Swedish a better place.

It’s not always pleasant being in a hospital setting but being treated so kindly, makes a difficult situation a little better. My husband had a difficult night and the younger nurses did not handle it well. She came in, took charge and handled everything. She even washed the floor and cleaned up the room. Above and beyond the call of duty. As soon as a room became available, she moved my husband close to the nurses’ station. He’s not a difficult patient but is very needy because of his condition.

She is a true gem and needs to be appreciated and recognized for her dedication to caring for her patient and his family.”
