New family-friendly laws take effect in Colorado

The new laws help families by expanding the state's FAMLI leave program and protects families searching for child care from waitlists and nonrefundable fees.

Denver, Colo. — Those families are already eligible for 12 weeks of bonding like other newborn families. This new law gives parents the extra time while their child is in the hospital.

“Having a parent at the bedside, I always say this to all the parents, is, ‘You're like medicine for your baby,’” said Dr. Jennifer Zank, a neonatologist at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
