Pediatric emergency care we offer

When a sudden injury or ailment arises, it’s essential to get emergency medical care as quickly as possible. We offer emergency care for children and adolescents 24/7.

Pediatric emergency services

Our children's emergency department offers rapid emergency care, with minimized wait times available online and updated every 30 minutes.

Our pediatricians and other pediatric emergency physicians share their expertise and passion for caring for children with a wide variety of emergency medical conditions. Because an emergency room situation can be nerve-wracking for both parents and children, we work to keep kids calm and parents reassured, with leading pain and anxiety-reducing techniques.

We offer kid-sized equipment and cheerful décor, as well as highly effective pain management, and are in close communication with your child’s primary care doctor whenever possible. We accept most insurance providers and welcome Kaiser Permanente members.

In addition, we offer pediatric emergency services at all of our HealthONE emergency rooms conveniently located across metro Denver.

Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

We are home to the largest Level IV NICU in the region. Having the highest possible NICU designation, our unit offers round-the-clock care for neonatal emergencies from experienced neonatologist and hospitalists, with special designation for delivery room resuscitation, respiratory care, high-frequency ventilation and surgery.

Because every second counts during an emergency, our NICU and pediatric ER teams work hand-in-hand to ensure the highest-quality, uninterrupted care for you and your child.

Neonatal transport program

Providing life-saving care to infants is the specialty of the AirLife Neonatal Transport Team. Comprised of a uniquely experienced group of neonatal registered nurses (RN), neonatal respiratory therapists (RT) and neonatal nurse practitioners (NNP), the Neonatal Transport Team responds to births and helps transport high-risk infants, infants born prematurely or those that are critically ill. Once at the hospital, our neonatal team takes care of patients from birth to 48 weeks gestational age.

AirLife’s unique approach to advanced medical care is evidenced by the expertise of the neonatal transport team. Each neonatal registered nurse and neonatal respiratory therapist is required to have a minimum of three years neonatal intensive care experience at a tertiary care facility. The team’s neonatal nurse practitioners also all have a minimum of three years of experience in their field at a tertiary care facility. The unique training and specialized expertise of AirLife's Neonatal Transport Team have made a critical difference in tiny lives across our region since 1991.

Helpful resources for parents

Sudden medical conditions are always stressful, but we understand the extra stress that can arise when it is about your child.

When to visit the ER

As a parent, one of the most crucial decisions you may face is determining whether your child's condition warrants a visit to the emergency room. You may ask yourself if you're neglecting your child by not taking them to the ER or if you're overreacting.

Annually, one out of every five children requires emergency medical attention. In Denver, the HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's at Presbyterian St. Luke's has five 24/7 emergency departments, providing continuous access to qualified pediatric emergency doctors and pediatricians who care for children and teenagers.

If you're unsure whether your child's symptoms necessitate a trip to the ER, refer to the topics below for guidance on when it may be appropriate to bring your child to the emergency department.
