Patient and Family Advisory Council

Purpose

The purpose of the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is to provide a voice that represents all patients and families who receive care at HCA HealthONE Swedish. PFAC members serve in an advisory capacity and partner with hospital physicians, nurses, and administrators to help improve the quality of our hospital’s care for all patients and families.

What do patient and family advisors do?

  1. Advisors share their stories and their healthcare experiences with clinicians, staff, and other patients.
  2. Advisors participate in discussion groups to share what it is like to be a patient at HCA HealthONE Swedish and what we can do to improve.
  3. Advisors will sometimes be asked to work on short-term projects to partner with HCA HealthONE Swedish to make improvements.

Objectives

  1. Provide ongoing feedback to hospital staff and physicians to improve patient safety, quality of care, patient experience, and patient service issues.
  2. Strengthen communication and collaboration between patients and families and the hospital team.
  3. Promote information sharing between the hospital staff and physicians, patients, families, and community members.
  4. Assist in establishing the hospital’s organizational priorities in response to the needs of the patient, family, and community.
  5. Promote patient engagement, family advocacy, and family involvement in their health care and wellness.
