HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge launches International Center for Hip Preservation

Ribbon cutting celebrates unique, new offering at HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge.

Lone Tree, CO — HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge hosted a ribbon cutting for its new, dedicated surgical center for the International Center for Hip Preservation (ICHP) on the first floor of the Evergreen Building on the campus. The ICHP surgical center includes four ORs, pre-op, recovery and a family waiting lounge.

Based at HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge, ICHP is among the first in the United States to bring together internationally recognized orthopedic hip preservation specialists to promote and advance the art and science of hip preservation. The unique focus and strength of the Center is to bring together multiple surgeons from different practices to combine ideas and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

A principle focus of ICHP revolves around the treatment of patients with hip dysplasia. Young, active patients with dysplasia typically present with hip pain and labral tears. A primary goal at the Center is to revolutionize surgical treatment and outcomes for these patients.

“In the US, corrective surgery for dysplasia typically involves two separate surgeries, often performed by different surgeons, separated by 2-3 weeks. Our goal is to optimize patients’ outcomes by performing both surgeries at the same time,” says Dr. Ron Hugate, a founding member of the ICHP program. “Our dedicated surgical center – the first of its kind in the nation – provides our patients and their families with easy access and an exceptional team of seasoned professionals.”

“Our goal in creating this Center is to bring together thought leaders in hip preservation – those with knowledge and skills second to none in terms of work-ups, diagnostics and surgical expertise – to be among the very best in our field and teach generations of hip specialists for years to come.” says Dr. Michael Ellman, another founding member of the ICHP program.

In his remarks during the ribbon cutting, HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge CEO Eric Evans stated, “Our International Center for Hip Preservation at HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge is where expertise and perfection reign to create great outcomes for patients.  We have created exceptional surgical, inpatient and concierge teams to deliver world-class care to our patients and their families in a unique, dedicated center.”

“By bringing together some of the best minds in the field, we hope to build a robust research program with a focus on improving patient care, from nonoperative management to surgical treatment of young, active patients with complex hip disorders,” adds third founding member Dr. James Genuario.
