At 20 weeks, we knew she had a serious problem. It was a word we had never heard before — gastroschisis. And it was word that stopped our hearts.

When we learned of our sweet baby Brooklynn’s condition at her 20-week ultrasound, we also learned that she would require immediate surgery. Through HCA HealthONE’s Center for Maternal Fetal Health, we had the opportunity to meet the specialists at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's at Presbyterian St. Luke's in Denver. We were given all the time we needed to better understand what we were facing — and relieved to know that an experienced team was standing by to care for our baby.

Brooklynn is doing really well now — and will have minimal scarring due to Dr. Saundra Kay’s amazing surgical abilities. We can’t say enough about the care we received from the doctors and nurses in the NICU. Their kindness, caring and understanding was more than crucial for Brooklynn, it was a lifesaver for us, too.
