Family and coworkers: Meet two Colorado men who followed in their dads' career footsteps

A firefighter and a nurse each watched their fathers build careers in service. Now they're building their own, sometimes side by side.

Ryan Thornton has been a nurse for about 25 years, growing his career from a start in the military to, today, serving as CEO of HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge.

His son Daniel Thornton is an overnight charge nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at HCA HealthONE Aurora. While he originally pursued a different career path, a family member’s Alzheimer's diagnosis shined a new light on a health care career and community service.
